Course care and golf etiquette

Published on 26th May 2018 in Uncategorized

As the wetter months approach, it is important to consider that the greens will be softer and more susceptible to footprints; fairways will be softer, with more and deeper divots being taken, and the bunkers will not be as dry as they have been.

There are a few things we can all do to ensure that we are considerate of our fellow players:

  • Be careful where you step when retrieving your ball from the hole, try not to stand near the hole as deep footprints can result as you bend down to get your ball.
  • Don’t stand next to the hole while everyone else putts out
  • Be careful not to walk over or step on your partner’s line
  • When holding the flagstick, hold the flag so it doesn’t flap around, and stand off to one side
  • Repair your pitch mark, and one or two others in you see any.
  • Fill your divots (including those on the edges of the fairway or in the rough), and fill a few others as you walk down the fairway to your ball.
  • Rake the bunkers after your shot, and leave the rake in the bunker – with the handle parallel to the direction of the hole.
  • NTP markers – they don’t have to be placed where your ball landed; measure your distance and place the marker behind the hole.

And a final note, please try not to move around in your partner’s line of sight nor stand directly behind them on the tee or greenĀ as they are playing their shots.

We can all do our bit to keep things in good nick for the next person to play the hole.

Enjoy the last days of autumn, and happy golfing!
