2018 AGM & New Committee
Published on 29th August 2018 in UncategorizedFellow members,
It was fantastic to see so many members at last night’s Annual General Meeting, it shows that we are all passionate about our Club and have a vested interested in its future.
A great many issues were discussed and debated, reports tabled and finances scrutinised.
Belgravia Leisure’s Michael Mckay, Margaret and new Pro Andrew Cooper were very generous hosts and put on a great spread, and Michael presented an interesting biopic – a rare insight into his golfing journey, and his vision of the Yarrambat Park future; raising some interesting points for our Club and members to ponder.
The atmosphere was warm and convivial, to which any club aspires; and it was great to see Rob Laughlin make it along – he told me he has managed to hit a few balls on the range, and wanted to express his overwhelming gratitude to all members, for their best wishes, prayers and generosity.
A few key decisions were announced, and the full Minutes will be posted in due course; a few of the highlights were;
- The Club is financially sound, and it was agreed that the Club would endeavour to ‘break even’ going forward.
- The Midweek Championships will be played from the permanent gold tees next year.
- Membership fees will be reduced by 6.25% commencing 2018/2019.
- Prize allocations will be re-assessed, but will remain as is for the time being.
- Congratulations go to our two new Life Members – Desmond Borg and Paul Reid.
The election of the Committee for 2018/2019 followed;
A good number of nominations, including some from new faces, were received;

After a close vote for the Presidency fell in my favour, the AGM was informed (by Gavin) that Desmond Borg would not serve as Gavin had not been successful, and his nomination for Secretary was withdrawn. John Melouney then withdrew his nomination for handicapper, resulting in all other positions being declared elected unopposed.

I congratulate each member of the Committee for stepping up to serve the membership of the Club, and promise that this Committee will be open and responsive to our members. Please remember that the Committee represents the best interests of the whole Club, of all our members – junior, senior, midweek or weekend players, and that sometimes what may be best for an individual, may not be what is best for the whole Club; but we will listen, and we will respond.
I would like to offer my thanks to Ross McDonald for his outstanding work as Junior Coordinator over the last few years, and point out that there was no nomination received for that role moving forward – if you are interested please contact our new Secretary. I also offer my thanks to the outgoing members of the Committee for their efforts over the past year, as well as our Captain Andrew Monteleone and Vice Captain Jason Gianginis – two members who served the Club with passion.
We look forward to establishing a sold working partnership with the Course management (we’ll know by October who that may be), the ground staff, Nillumbik Council and the YPLGC.
Regards, and good golfing,
Stuart Thompson
President
