New Survey – Mid Week Championship – Tees
Published on 5th August 2018 in UncategorizedDear Members,
As you are no doubt aware, there was much consternation earlier this year when an error in syllabus programming saw the May Mid Week Medal coincide with the first round of the Mid Week Championships.
As a result, the Mid Week Medal was played from the Permanent Blue tees instead of the Permanent Gold.
(A similar error saw last year’s Mid Week Championship played from the Gold tees.)
The voice of our members has been overwhelmingly heard and the syllabus will be corrected so the Mid Week Medal will always be played from the Permanent Gold tees, and a system has been put in place to prevent such errors recurring.
The issue remaining is the Mid Week Championships; a handicapped, Honour Board event currently played over three consecutive Wednesday rounds from the Blue tees.
It is the only Mid Week event that is currently played from the Blue tees (out of 104 competitions) and it is acknowledged that it is a challenging competition – but a prestigious Honour Board event should be challenging.
It is an (Nett) event that rewards consistent golf – any player that plays close to their handicap for 3 rounds is a chance to win.
Recently an online survey was forwarded for members to respond to, but unfortunately, some members may have voiced their preference more than once – we do however understand that some members are very passionate regarding their golf.
It has been decided to conduct the survey again, this time with an email response. This way we can collate the responses to ensure that each and every member can be heard on this issue and we can ensure – One member = One vote.
An email was sent on Sunday 5 August asking for a YES / NO response to the question;
“I would prefer to play the Mid Week Championship of the Permanent Gold tees.”
A YES response would indicate a shift to Permanent Gold tees from next year
A NO response would indicate that the Championship remain on the Blue tees.
Please consider the question carefully, and respond promptly, as we would like to have an answer for you before the AGM.
It is proposed to retain the current Mid Week Cup event (3 Stableford rounds ) off the Permanent Gold tees
