Congratulations Ron Dingle

‘Twas a blustery spring afternoon in November, on the cusp of the Melbourne Cup, as Ron approached the 16th hole, a solid round already behind him.

A stiff breeze blowing straight over the tee box toward the hole below. Ron had just witnessed Mark Davie (in the previous group) flush a 7 iron long over the back bunker, and playing partner Ian Witham dump his 5 wood into the water. Stuart Thompson stepped up and hit what looked to be a great 8 iron that just fell just short catching the lip and rolling down into the left trap.

Ron pulled out his 8 iron and stepped confidently to the tee, “anywhere inside Frank’s NTP” said Stuart.

Ron pulled his 8 iron left –  it was headed straight for path before drifting toward the left trap – “come join me”, says  Stuart.

Lo and behold, the ball hits the inside bank of the left trap, turns at right angles, pops over the bunker, clearing it by centimeters and races across the green,  before slamming into the flag stick and disappearing into the hole.

“Never looked like missing”, says Ron as pandemonium breaks out on the tee-box. High fives aplenty, and Justin Asquith runs across from the 17th tee whooping and hollering.

Well played Ron, and congratulations on your 1st hole in one.
