Yarrambat Golf Club Presentation Day
Published on 11th November 2018 in UncategorizedMembers,
That time is upon us once again where we come together – as a Club – to recognise the achievements of our many members, reconnect with those we haven’t seen for a while, and meet and welcome new members into the fold.
Over the past few years there has been a growing sense of disconnection creeping into the Club, an us vs them, mid-week vs weekend, A Grade vs C Grade, and something needs to be done to bring the Club back together as one Club.
Regardless of how people choose to pay their green fees, on which days they prefer to play, in which grade they play, or even who they like to play with – we are all members of the Yarrambat Golf Club.
In an effort to re-connect the members of our Golf Club this year we will be trialling a single presentation day luncheon. To enable as many members to attend, the opportunity to attend, it will be held on Saturday 22 December 2018.
It is understood that this may not suit every member; and we have heard a number of voices on the issue; and in the absence of facts, whispers take over.
Let us fill that void;
Play Format
The format of the day will be a Team Ambrose 7:50 AM Shot Gun start with a random draw. (Names from each grade placed in hats and teams drawn out of each at random – one from A grade; one from B grade, one from C Grade and then a random member to make the 4.)
Yarrambat Park Golf Course have assured us they can cater for 144 players in this format. It will be up to the players – each of you – as it always should be, to manage the pace of the game. There will be nobody but members on the Course, so if play slows down – it is us, the members, that are responsible to pick it up again. Bearing in mind, we plan for the day to be a social event, coming together for a pleasant celebration – not a fierce competition where people fly around the course in 4 hours and go home.
Prizes will be awarded as per normal competition practice.
Cost
This function will be fully funded by Yarrambat Golf Club, for all members.
No member whose green fee arrangement would require payment for play on Saturdays will be required to pay any additional monies to play golf, and there is no subsidy required for lunch.
(*Last year 90 members attended on Thursday and 90 members on Saturday – and nearly 50 members (subsidised by you, the Club members) attended both functions)
Catering
The catering manager at Bunker Café and Bistro has consulted her staff and chef and has assured us that they can cater a buffet style luncheon for up to 144 guests.
Bunkers Café and Bistro have a new chef, and a great new menu.
Lunch will comprise:
- 3 hot buffet selections from
- Beef lasagne
- Beef ravioli with capsicum and tomato
- Gnocchi with pumpkin spinach and cashews
- Penne bolognaise
- Satay chicken with coconut rice and vegetables
- Mini marinated drumsticks with spiced rice
- 2 salad selections from
- Green garden & tomato
- Caesar salad
- Coleslaw
- Hot chips or roast potatoes (depends what is easier on the kitchen)
- Fresh Bread
- All condiments
*(NB) the final menu is yet to be set.
Lunch will be had before the presentations are made, as in the last few years, those worthy winners have not received the accolades of the Club Members, and eating lunch was prioritised over recognition of Club achievements.
Presentations
There are a number of presentations to be made,
including 24 medals, Champions, Grade Champions, Holes in One – and it is appreciated that these can take a considerable time to get through – but it is one day a year where we recognise our fellow Club Members achievements – and whilst every effort will be made to maintain pace of presentations – we would ask members to show patience to those worthy winners (and after all it is not the length of the Brownlow!)
Bar Service
Michael Mckay has assured us that there will be adequate staff available to ensure bar service is reasonable, but again, we would ask that patience and respect is shown to all Café and Pro Shop Staff, as they are there to assist us, and are not intentionally ignoring anyone.
In the interests of social and corporate responsibility – drinks and drink cards will not be supplied this year –I do not wish for committee members to be vicariously liable should any unfortunate events occur where the supply of alcohol is an issue (as has been the case in some recent matters arising from company catered parties).
Booking
The booking sheet for Saturday 22 December will open on Monday 12 November at 7PM – Note: it does not matter which hole you book on, as groups will be randomly drawn and announced closer to the day
If any person has any objections to the stated desire to re-unify the Yarrambat Golf Club, please direct your enquiries to the President or Secretary, in the first instance or respectfully approach a committee member after they have completed their round. The committee are willing to answer any reasonable questions but will not tolerate any member of Yarrambat Golf Club causing any member undue distress.
Regards,
The Committee of the Yarrambat Golf Club
