NEW RULES OF GOLF
As you are all no doubt aware, changes to the Rules of Golf come into effect on 1 January 2019.
It is incumbent upon us all to familiarise ourselves with the new Rules and terminology – such as Water Hazards changing to Penalty Areas, dropping the ball from knee height (almost preferred lies for Jack!), new rules if you go out of bounds..(should see the end to 11’s and 12’s on the 10th!) and new rules for double chipping… (sorry couldn’t hear you over Jason’s cheering!)
There is a box of new R&A Players Edition books in the Bat Cave – please take one and read up over the Christmas period – there is also a poster on the wall of some of the common changes, and if you want easy, ready access – I’d recommend downloading the R&A App from Google Play or iTunes.
Here is a simple video explanation of some of the changes Top 20 Rule Changes 2019 but, as this video only gives an introduction to the changes, you should also read up on them with the book, smart phone App or here Golf Australia – 1 Minute Rule Videos.
NEW LOCAL RULES
The Local rules on the back of the 2019 scorecards have been updated – and a new local rule has been added to assist care for the course;
13: Motorised Golf Carts (ride on):All carts must remain on paths adjacent to tee boxes. No motorised carts are permitted to drive on, over or between tee boxes. No motorised carts are permitted to drive within 15 metres of any green (except on a made path), between any green and green-side bunker, or past any blue painted lines. Motorised carts must remain on the path to the left of the 16th green.
General penalty – 2 strokes / Match play – Loss of hole
**Please note: This new local competition rule was introduced by the Committee after consultation with BMS (Course Maintenance) and Belgravia Leisure (Course Managers) in an effort to maintain the condition of the course, protect the newer greens and reduce soil compaction and wear around all greens and tees. It has been apparent that the instructions painted on the paths by ground staff have been largely ignored by many, and whilst we cannot control the public (on a public course) we can set an example that hopefully others will follow.
There can be be no ‘grace period’ in competitions after 1 January – members will be expected to have read up on the most common rules, and carry the Rule Book or App as a reference.
REINTRODUCED BOOKING RULES
As the result of continued last minute cancellations and no-shows – leaving members in the lurch –
New booking rules will be effective January 1st.
If you fail to show, and have not cancelled your booking prior to 7PM the evening before competition, a 14 day suspension from YGC competitions will be imposed.
If you miss you allotted tee time (arrive late or move forward and teeing off early – be it one player or more, without approval from Committee or your booked playing group) – you will be disqualified from that competition.
So, it is recommended that if you are uncertain regarding the weather forecast – cancel you booking before 7PM the night before – and if it turns out to be a nice day; simply re-book into an available time slot. This will allow those on the waiting list to play, with sufficient notice – and will not leave members stranded without a playing partner.
*Note: exceptional circumstances will be taken into consideration (eg; kidnapped by Russian mafia types, carjacked by youth gangs, family emergency…. but not “I might get wet”)
** Note: An EARLIEST tee time has been negotiated with Belgravia to enable the ground staff time to adequately prepare the course – without needing to do so by spotlight – and reducing the risk of damage resulting from poor lighting.
** No group is to tee off before the earliest competition booking slot ratified by the Committee – this may result in disqualification form the competition.
NEW COMPETITION COMMENCING
Commencing January 1, a 9 hole “Belgravia Bash” Stableford competition will be conducted on Tuesdays evenings with tee off between 4:45 and 5:30pm.
The competition will be open to all players with a handicap (from any Club so bring your workmates down), and will be conducted off the Blue markers – alternating front and back 9’s where available.
Entry is $5 and a BBQ Pack will be awarded to 1 in 4 players, with Bunkers Cafe awarding a $15 Lunch Voucher to the overall winner.
Belgravia Staff will be remaining on site later to ensure refreshments are available.
Any remaining funds will be used to offset the Pennant costs incurred by the Club.
