New Rules (No Excuses!) – Watch the videos!
Published on 20th January 2019 in UncategorizedDear Members,
There is a fair bit of information here – please read carefully.
I can confidently assure you all that the sky will never be too blue nor the grass too green!
NEW RULES OF GOLF
New Rules of Golf have commenced.
It is incumbent upon us all to familiarise ourselves with the new Rules and terminology – such as Water Hazards changing to Penalty Areas, dropping the ball from knee height, new rules for double chips, putting with the flag in. (and you can never drop on the Green side of the 16th penalty area!)
There are new R&A Players Edition books in the Bat Cave – please take one and read up – there is also a poster on the wall of some of the common changes, and if you want easy, ready access – I’d recommend downloading the R&A App from Google Play or iTunes.
Here is a simple video explanation of some of the changes Top 20 Rule Changes 2019 but, as this video only gives an introduction to the changes, you should also read up on them with the book, smart phone App or here Golf Australia – 1 Minute Rule Videos.
Pennant players – both Scratch and Seniors MUST be all over the new rules!
NEW LOCAL RULES
The Local rules on the back of the 2019 scorecards have been updated – these cards will be arriving shortly – and a new local rule has been added to assist care for the course;
13: Motorised Golf Carts (ride on):All carts must remain on paths adjacent to tee boxes. No motorised carts are permitted to drive on, over or between tee boxes. No motorised carts are permitted to drive within 15 metres of any green (except on a made path), between any green and green-side bunker, or past any blue painted lines. Motorised carts must remain on the path to the left of the 16th green.
** Reminder – Penalty Area markers – yellow and red stakes – are IMMOVABLE obstructions – if they are interfering with your stance or swing you may take relief – do not pull out the marker as this incurs a general penalty.
General penalty – 2 strokes / Match play – Loss of hole
**Please note: This new local competition rule for Golf Carts was introduced by the Committee after extensive consultation with BMS (Course Maintenance) and Belgravia Leisure (Course Managers) in an effort to maintain the condition of the course, protect the newer greens and reduce soil compaction and wear around all greens and tees. It has been apparent that the instructions painted on the paths by ground staff have been largely ignored by many, and whilst we cannot control the public (on a public course) we can set an example that hopefully others will follow.
There can be be no ‘grace period’ in competitions after 31 December – members will be expected to have read up on the most common rules, and carry the Rule Book or App as a reference.
REINTRODUCED BOOKING RULES
As the result of continued last minute cancellations and no-shows – leaving members in the lurch – (which happened yet again on the Australia Day public holiday when our former President was left without a partner!)
New booking rules will be effective tomorrow – January 1st.
If you fail to show, and have not cancelled your booking prior to 7PM the evening before competition, a 14 day suspension from YGC competitions will be imposed.
If you miss you allotted tee time (arrive late or move forward and teeing off early – be it one player or more, without approval from Committee or your booked playing group) – you will be disqualified from that competition.
It is recommended that if you are uncertain regarding the weather forecast – cancel your booking the day before – and if it turns out to be a nice day; simply re-book into an available time slot. This will allow those on the waiting list to play, with sufficient notice – and will not leave members stranded without a playing partner.
BOOKING SHEETS will be locked at 7.01 PM the night before and all changes will need to go through the committee or the Pro Shop. They can still be viewed to see who you are playing with, you just can’t take your name out or book in – to do this you need to speak to a Committee member or myself.
*Note: exceptional circumstances will be taken into consideration (eg; kidnapped by Russian mafia types, carjacked by youth gangs, family emergency…. but not “I might get wet”)
** Note: An EARLIEST tee time (6:32 AM summertime) has been negotiated with Belgravia to enable the ground staff time to adequately prepare the course – without needing to do so by spotlight – and reducing the risk of damage resulting from poor lighting.
(Monday is an ‘all-day’ comp with a YGC preferred booking arrangement commencing at 07:30 – public bookings and Quick18 bookings are available before this – from 06:32 but must be arranged with the Pro-shop and the time slot added to the competition before 7PM the night before to free up a booking slot for other to use)
** No group is to tee off before the earliest competition booking slot set by the Committee (unless the Committee or Ground Staff and Pro Shop consent – this may result in disqualification form the competition.
New competition commencing New Year’s Day
Commencing tomorrow, a 9 hole Stableford ‘Chicken run” (i.e. get in before dark!) competition will be conducted on Tuesdays evenings with tee off between 4:45 and 5:30pm.
The competition will be open to all players, with a handicap (from any Club so bring your mates down), and will be conducted off the Blue markers – alternating front and back 9’s where available.
Entry is $5 and a BBQ Pack will be awarded to (roughly) 1 in 4 players, with Bunkers Cafe awarding a $15 Lunch Voucher to the overall winner.
Belgravia Staff will be remaining on site later to ensure refreshments are available.
Any remaining funds will be used to offset the Pennant costs incurred by the Club.
Happy New Year to all,
be nice to your family, friends and each other.
Stuart Thompson
President YGC
(p.s. if your first instinct is leaning toward ‘woe is me’ – please, take a breath, count to 10 and then be grateful you are still able to swing a golf club – unlike the 214* people who died on our roads and 4,757* whose lives were totally altered by the injuries they received in car crashes in 2018 alone!)
