VGA Pennant R3
Published on 14th March 2021 in UncategorizedThe VGA Pennant team ventured out to Mandalay today to take on Werribee Park.
The skies were overcast and a blustery wind was blowing from the south west. The day was going to prove challenging.
First up at #7 was Pete Naismith who got ahead early and kept ths pressure on with great driving and solid putting to prevail 5&3.
Daniel Saykan stepped in to #6 where a see-sawing battle saw Daniel build a lead, before finishing the job on 16, winning 4&2.
Jas Kooner at #5 knew he was on song when he hit the flag with his second shot on the first, and then was sinking putts from everywhere to record a 5&4 win
Captain Darren Kershaw at #4 was unflappable, leading all day before turning a 2 hole lead into a 4&2 win.
Calvin Plowright at #3 was challenged all day with a very solid opponent matching him hole for hole, with the match square leading into the 16th hole. After halving 16 with birdies, a magnificent approach from 110 out on the par 5 17th landed 18″ from the hole allowed Calvin to head to 18 1 up, where he closed it out.
Aaron Attwell at #2 had his hands full all day up against (ex Yarrambat) long bomber, Tom Howarth. It was a close contest, with Aaron falling behind early. He worked hard to take the match to 17 where he had an outside chance birdie chance to take it to the 18th, but his putt inexplicable faded left at the hole and he fell 2&1.
At #1 Brock Gillard was playing conservatively through the front 9, trying to manage to wind and fell behind, 3 down through 10. After winning the par 3 11th, he changed his gamestyle, backing himself to play more aggressively, quickly pegging back the holes before closing a great comeback on the 17th to win 3&1.
A fantastic 6-1 win sees us move to 3rd on the table, equal on points and just 2 games back.
Next week we take on 2nd placed Melton in a crucial game at their home track.
Thanks again to to caddies and those who came out to support.
