Yarrambat Blacks

Yarrambat Black vs Strathallan played at Rosanna GC, 4 wins and 4 losses.

That old salt Tom Finch giving away 7 shots did what he does best by keeping that ball straight and applying relentless pressure to overrun his opponent 3/1.

Katsumoto Ishikawa with his meek and mild exterior systematically dismantled his opponent, also giving away 7 shots and having a 4/3 victory.

Peter ‘the devil’  Devlin never flinched as he cruised to a 3/2 win. The skip thought he`d join in as he chewed away at those 6 shots of his opponent and came up with a 3/1 win.

Shayne`s usual charm and flair didn’t come off today as he went down 1/2.

Rob O just couldn’t overcome his dogged opponent with the extra 6 shots and playing above himself losing 2/4. Rob’s new clubs didn’t behave for him today!!

Billy Hassett and Cath Rogers both had dirty days today going down 5/6.

As usual the course is in great condition, the service and the lunch pack were good and all had smiles on their dials.

Week 3 at Rosanna turned out to be a bit tougher than we expected.

Playing the Box Hill Fillies most of us were giving away lots of shots including 2 on men’s par 4 /ladies par 5 holes. This meant we were often waiting for mistakes by our opponents that simply didn’t come.

The Fillies, well-schooled on their narrow Box Hill home course, hit the ball carefully off the tee but nice and straight. All of our matches were close affairs and there was much talk afterwards of the chances we let slip, especially on those fast-paced greens and giant bunkers. (Where is the Mulligan rule when you need it).

It was good to see our Captain finally have a win after giving himself a John Kennedy like pep talk imploring himself not to “think and just to do.”  Another learning from the day too was that despite playing in different groups David and Ian really should mark their ball a bit more distinctively from each other.

Despite all this it was another very enjoyable day on the beautiful Rosanna course. Lunch was delivered to players on the course as they played. Not quite Jas’s standard but very satisfying nevertheless with a gourmet sandwich, piece of fruit and a giant chocolate bar. (No mention will be made of the additional chocolate bar in Ian’s possession [reportedly 9/10ths of the law] in his car at the end of the day.)

So, it’s on to Whittlesea next week to play the Box Hill Men’s team and the Blue team is feeling quietly confident that we have got this one.
