Senior’s Pennant round up
Published on 4th April 2022 in UncategorizedAfter an exciting finish with Heidelberg Red and Rosanna Green being tied on 4 wins each, a play-off was arranged with the #1 players.
To enable everybody to see it was decided to play the 18th Hole. This was played 3 times and still could not be decided.
By agreement with the 2 Captains a decision was made to call a “Drawn Contest” and both teams will be engraved on the Shield this year.
Yarrambat Reds
Monday 21st March, we played our final match for the Senior Pennant season at Rosanna, we all navigated our way to the course through windy roads that were completely unfamiliar and this was the first challenge to most of us!
As we were not in the final we played for the “Plate” playing stableford and adding the total team score together. Unfortunately, the day was not as successful as we had hoped, the course is in great condition and weather was great, so no excuses there. Every player did their best, luckily Paul decided NOT to go swimming this year (as it is apparently a little dangerous)…
Overall, I’m sure that everyone who played this season found it enjoyable especially the opportunity to play at courses that normally you would not have access to.
Overall season was managed very well and we will all be looking forward to season 2023 – where we will get the winning team back together!

The 2022 Seniors Pennant final played at Rosanna GC between Rosanna Green and Heidelberg Red on a perfect sunny and a very warm day. The challenge was intense as both teams fought it out to the very end resulting in a 4 all draw. Tony Shaw (Heidelberg Red) and Ron van der Schalk (Rosanna Green) played 3 play-off holes at the 18th without breaking the deadlock resulting in a drawn pennant final.
The Yarrambat Blacks set out to challenge for the plate with the best aggregate Stableford points with the rest of the teams. The greens were slick, the fairways tight and the bunkers deep. The Blacks fought hard for every point earned gathering a total of 211 Stableford points but not good enough as the winner Rosanna White with 258 points.
Rosanna served up a great lunch with a few frothies as all teams shared what could have been.
For Yarrambat Blacks, well done by all, playing with that very competitive and determined spirit and representing the YGC proudly. A special thanks to stand in captain Des Borg for filling in and taking care of business while I wasn’t available.

The final week of senior pennant for the Yarrambat Blue Team was a tough one. We accumulated 203 Stableford points, which sounds a lot, but just wasn’t quite enough to be able to lift the Plate.
On the hard and fast Rosanna greens we did struggle a bit to adapt our game. However, Lesley with 33 points and Ian with 31 points acclimatised well and both were unlucky not to score more heavily.
Overall, the season could be considered to be a raging success. Everyone loved the chance to test their golf on different courses and enjoyed the friendly camaraderie with senior pennant players from other clubs (not to mention the magnificent lunches with the buffet at Rosanna providing a fitting finale.) Thanks to Gavin and Patrick for organising such a great competition and we are already looking forward to next year.
