2022 Club Champion

The final round of the 2022 Club Championships saw play underway in very unusual conditions – the sun was shining and a gentle breeze blowing – and many were unprepared for such unseasonal and unexpected weather. To add to the challenge, the rough was punishing, and the greens lightning fast!

In the battle the blue riband event, and after a thrilling and see-sawing battle that came down to the final hole, Jack Leonello held on to lead from post to post and take out the YGC 2022 Club Championships by 2 strokes from a gallant Calvin Plowright. In the end the consistency of play across 4 rounds proved the difference in the gross scoring competition.

Jack also managed to hold off Vasfi Ajro to take out the A Grade Championship.

Gavin Temouskos rallied from an inconsistent front 9 strong to overtake club stalwart Lance Allen and claim the title of B Grade Champion by 1 shot with a clutch up & down on the 72nd hole with Rod Mountney a further shot back.

A strong second round from Mark Bazzoni set up a solid win in the C Grade Championship and held held off all comers to take the win by 3 strokes from David Morley, with Jacqui Lamoureux a further shot back.

Congratulations to all winners. Well played and well deserved.
