Closing out 2022

Members,

As the year comes to a close, the cloud of yet another covid outbreak continues to linger,  and whist the rains of the last few months have stopped in Melbourne – the threat of flooding is still very real in the rural areas, and the flood peak has yet to arrive on the Murray.

The 2023 Syllabus has been released (after numerous last minute changes) and can be found on the Syllabus page – some great work by Peter Lowery and the Match Committee to squeeze in a very full calendar.

A new format will accompany Monthly and Mid Week Medal rounds next year. Each group will be mixed within a three time block (so for example 7:00, 7:10 & 7:20 will be shuffled amongst those groups). This will enable members to get to know others on that one day a month, to play with diffrent people, and enhance the Club atmosphere on these event days, days that are not just “another round of golf with my mates”.

Joe Caruana and his co-Captains Paul Ceberano and Mike Lester are looking for players for next year’s Senior Pennant teams – and it has been decided to return the original teams to play together to try to regain the trophies they didn’t get to defend. (And we are sorry that it turned out that way – we tried to balance out the teams with the third team coming on board – hindsight is a wonderful thing!)

For the first time in a few years we will be holding a ‘proper’ end of year Presentation Day on Saturday the 17th December, with a meal & drinks provided. All members are encouraged to join the (mixed/seeded) Ambrose event – at no additional green fee cost.  To keep the day interesting the Committee will be randomly drawing names from A, B, and C grades to even out the teams and ‘balance’ handicaps, to ensure an even field and an exciting day.

On Wednesday the 14th December the Club are providing a BBQ and drinks for players who cannot make it on the Club’s official end of year function day. The BBQ will be catered by Belgravia Leisure, and members will have an option of drinks to be provided – either “on the turn” or post round.

On behalf of the YGC Committee, we look forward to seeing  many of you on the 17th, and wish you all a Merry Christmas and safe and Happy New Year.
