End of year wrap
Published on 21st December 2022 in UncategorizedMembers,
This year we almost returned to normality.. almost! Covid-19 seemed to be on the wane toward the middle of the year, but then a few new variants decided to pop their heads up… We’ve had floods & storms, course closures & fallen trees aplenty… luckily we just missed out on pestilence!
As 2022 comes to a close, (is it just me or has 2020-2022 just melded into one long blur?) I pause remember those members and family members that have passed, and to think of the families who will be setting one less place at the Christmas table this year. For them and also for those members or their family members who are experiencing health battles of their own, my thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
I hope that 2023 will bring some balance to the world, and that we can all get back on track. The course has recovered magnificently from the unseasonal flooding, and the fairways and greens are rolling well. The rectification works to the 8th dam wall and the ‘turfing’ of the run off adjacent to the 8th green should work a treat to enhance that hole. The Clubhouse is due for a full re-paint over the next few weeks – top to bottom – and acoustic battens have been affixed into the café area – greatly improving the amenity of that space.
It is still very much a fluid situation regarding plans for the start of the Yan Yean Road duplication/upgrade – although with Dan being returned (yet to meet 1 person who actually voted for him by the way…), and we being in a safe Labor seat.. who knows when they will get to it, and the compensation funds from that upgrade were/are earmarked for the redevelopment of the tee boxes. Speaking of tee boxes, we have a 1/2 dozen juniors that have joined the Club over the last few weeks and a new Junior Course has been mapped out and sent to GA for rating. This will be the “Orange” course.
After negotiations with Belgravia management – Matt W and Brock – moving into 2023 all YGC members will be entitled to a range of benefits at the Course, including;
- 10% discount on all alcoholic beverages
- 20% discount of Grasslands menu items (Burgers, parmas, fish & chips, bowls of wedges or chips etc.) (this doesn’t include kiosk food – such as pies/pasties, dimmies etc.)
- 20% discount off apparel (excl. clearance rack)
- up to 20% discount off hardware (excl. clearance items)
- members will be issued a NEW YGC/YPGC Member’s tag which MUST be produced to obtain any discount. **** No tag, no discount, no arguments – no matter how well known you think you are.
In addition, YGC Members who are aged over 40, and who also pay the full 7-day Belgravia green fees – the YGC Member reward card will return in 2023 – bigger and better than ever.
Each month it will allow a free schooner or pot of beer or soft drink or a large coffee (no cans next year) as well as a buy one/get one option, and a number of range balls options. [Total value is approx. $360]
Again – No card, no discount, no arguments and no trying to use a 2022 card next year [your 2023 card will be cancelled]. Lost cards will not be replaced.
The VGA Pennant team have started preparations for the step up to Division 5. We say goodbye to Pro Aaron Attwell, who is heading to Indooroopilly, Qld to take up a great opportunity there – so drop in and say hello if you head north – and welcome another Aaron – Aaron Saykan to the team.
YGC Senior Pennant planning is well underway, make sure you put your name on the list if you wish to play (over 50’s). Both pennant seasons start in February 2023.
The 2023 Syllabus is out and is chock full of events and I look forward to seeing you all at various times through the year.
On behalf of your YGC Committee, I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas, and a happy and prosperous New Year.
Stuart Thompson
President YGC
