Yarrambat Blue

Well today was a day to remember with the Blues managing to just get over a galant Black Team in a titanic struggle right to the finish. It gives the Blues bragging rights for at least a year or until they square off again in the future.

Winning 4 and drawing one out of 7 matches was a fantastic result given the stiff opposition and whilst we won’t be playing off in the final next week at Whittlesea, we can hold our collective heads up high knowing we are the in form team and primed to bring home the plate for the club.

Of note was Gavin (Mr Steady) Pearce’s game managing to continue with his great form from last week.

The other notables were Vas, Russell and Rob who scrambled hard to come up trumps against formidable opponents whilst Allan (Demon) Searl just hung on to come in square. The fact he was on his death bed just last week and then was crippled with gout over the weekend makes his effort outstanding! Well done Al!

Minh and yours truly just could not get out of 1st gear but went down fighting. In my case, Tommy (The Bandit) Finch kept me mesmerized with his bullet straight drives and fairway shots and then capped it off with his great short game. Just too good Tommy!

Overall it was a great day played in pretty ordinary conditions (wet and drizzly rain most of the day) on an excellent golf course with really good and friendly competition. The Heidelberg Golf Club should be commended for presenting us with a golf course in top condition together with excellent hospitality to finish the day off. We now look forward to playing for the Plate at Whittlesea against whatever opposition thrown at us!

Looking forward to Round 5!

A rather dismal day greeted the runners at Royal Heidelberg for the Intra club stable showdown, BlackBats v BlueBats, a bit of a dead rubber re the competition but with plenty of bragging results on offer for some stable stars the tension was palpable early. The wet weather was just not conducive to a couple of our dry trackers but I did notice a few mudlarks licking their lips. No sugar coating here, we were beaten by a better inform stable on the day, four and a half to two and a half, congratulations to the Blues! However I was disappointed with an email being circulated by someone in the opposing camp too “whip those Bats”, apparently the RSPCA has been notified and are looking into this matter, so no names /no pack drill Mr. DM. Obviously all part of the bloody bragging rights which I think are a bit overrated in my book… HaHa!… Now for our runners.

The Lamoureuxs, Mr Gilley had a lackluster race and battled away most of the run, not able to get into stride he plodded to the line to go down by 1!

Mrs. Jacqui again had a similar run to Mr. Gilley struggling to get a decent foothold in the damp conditions was to be beaten by the recent Prez’s Cup quarter finalist in Mr. GavP, 4 and 2!

You’re a Wimp Wilson, a noted dry tracker jumped well and in what was to be a muddling affair was worn down in the straight losing 3 and 1!

Eric the Articulate jumped well with the field and had a ding dong battle all race, the lead chopping and changing several times, valiant to the end, and only getting nutted late, 2 down!

Rod the Pumpa was tardy out of the gates and in a stop start up down race gathered some momentum to put his head down on the post, another dead heat, all square! A good prep for the Pumpa a win and two dead heats well done!

Nick TK was good from the barriers with the first half of the race proving to be a topsy turvy affair he was able to power away from his opposition to bolt in 6 and 4! Another great prep, unbeaten in all 3 starts an excellent return!

Now for the undoubted stable star Young Tommy, going for 4 on end, I don’t think there are enough superlatives…..in his melancholy fashion, easily cruising all the way in a Black Caviar style performance saluting a 5 and 4 victory! What a little champ, no easy feat winning the “Quaddy” in which he comprehensively accounted for all and sundry! A standout prep for Young Tommy racing into “Equine Immortality”, we salute you!

The stable is looking into the rich international races on offer for Young Tommy but travel insurances may prove financially prohibitive!

Despite losing to the gallant Blues we all enjoyed a great day of golfing which was played in the true Yarrambat spirit  and on a pretty decent track, thanks to all at Heidelberg!

Cheers Wilso.

Teams set off on a very wet Monday morning with great intentions, however some games proved to be quite difficult.

Chris Petkovski came in with a square, Sam Saykan fought very hard but was up against a very steady experienced player and finished 6/5 down.

I was lucky enough to finish 2/1up after a couple of lucky (lengthy ) putts and a chip in on the 7th.  Shayne Cairns fought to the very end to come in 3/1 down but said he enjoyed the battle.

Katsu Ishikawa sadly had 5/3 down and Carlos Rey ended with the same 5/3 down. Michael Hou lost his round on the very last hole to finish 1 down.

In general it was a great day even though it started wet but the weather improved a lot throughout the morning. Heidelberg is in great condition and I think everyone will agree a privilege to be invited to play there.  Looking forward to next season- the hills don’t seem to matter now!
