VGA Pennant Round 4

Published on 31st March 2023 in Uncategorized

On a coolish day the team headed out to Waverley-Churchill {Endeavour Hills] to take on the signature west course is a par 72 that measures 6,037 metres from the championship tees. It is a well-designed  dog-leg golf course with lush couch grass fairways, challenging greens and tree-lined fairways.

This week’s opponent was Goonawarra, the mob that took the title from us last year.

With Brock out playing the Eynesbury Masters and Jas raking in the dollars making lots of super-soft 3-ply, Jack came into the team for his 2023 playing debut and Alex had been suffering from a dodgy shoulder (rotator cuff, AC joint, bursitis, gout?) and was doubtful. For a brief moment it looked like Team Manager Ash was going to take out his sticks.

Fortunately, Alex was able to come through his injury, and swinging at less than 100% must’ve worked because he snagged a 3&2 win (after being 6 up early). Imran continued his form for a solid 3&2 win, while Matt took on fellow pro Tony Page and came home with the (clutch) chocolates 2&1.

Jack, playing at 1, was up against a bloke who was driving everything over 300 and fell, with a gutsy and fighting all the way 5&4, and Aaron (at 2) couldn’t find his mojo going down 6&4.

Darren was his usual solid self and took down Geoff Crowe 2&1 and Daniel, rounded out a magnificent 5&2 Team win beating his opponent 3&2.

It was great to see even more ‘Bats out there in support, Brad and Steve spectating, while Ronnie and Thabo stepped in to loop for the lads!

After 4 rounds we are sitting 3rd, one point behind the leaders Box Hill and Heritage.

This week we take on the top side Box Hill at Goonawarra in what will be a defining battle. A win on Sunday puts us right in contention for a flag.

Good luck to the boys on Sunday – it’s only a short trip down the Ring Road, so let’s see a real ‘Bat entourage out there to support the team!

Go ‘Bats!
