2024 VGA Pennant Report: Round 5.

This week the team headed out to Goonawarra in a must win encounter against Mt Derrimut. We had a job to do this week and the team put their suits on and were all business.
Callum was away first and was striking it high and long like always and was a cool and calm customer as usual. With the assistance of Mr John Ward they kept themselves in the game for the 18 holes. After being 3 down with 5 to play Cal kicked into gear and fought back to square with two holes to play. He had a chance to go down the 19ᵗʰ but unfortunately went 2 down on the last.
Dean “scooter” Mottram was back this week and scooter free due to the inclement weather. He was away next and with his opponent putting his first shot of the day in the water, Dean had control of the match for most of the day. He did lose the lead on the back nine but managed to use his guile and experience to get himself out of strife and sealed the deal on the 18ᵗʰ hole.
Darren and Jason went to work next and from the start you could tell it was always going to be a ding dong battle. They went up, down and square and traded blows all day. But the old boys got the job done, snaring the lead at the right time and securing the win on the 18ᵗʰ hole – 2 up.
The Bombay Bomber made an exciting return this week and was next off the runway with his co pilot Peter “Mr” T to distract him for the day. The distraction worked wonders and while Jas sprayed the driver all over the course, they got themselves back onto the hole they were playing and broke their opponent’s heart with surgeon like precision in the short game. They finished the game 3up on the 16ᵗʰ.
Physically, the strongest pair in the competition were up next with the current Club Champion Azza and your April monthly medal winner King Chris. These two champions are developing a great player-caddy relationship and will only get stronger with time. Today they decided to play a lot of second shots out from under trees just to keep things interesting, but it worked with the guys working hard and getting up on the 18ᵗʰ.
Matt Allen and his arm lock putter along with Reliable Ron Dingle on his bag were in control early on and finished their opponent off early with the first kill of the day. Never looked in trouble and ended the match 7up. It was a professional display from the professionals.
We played a wolf at number one today, and he was hungry. Dan Saykan and his trusty tracker Thabo hunted down their catch with stealth, poise and precision. They let the prey get out to a two hole lead and into the comfort zone and then they pounced when the time was right. A 3up win and a video call from Uncle Sammy in Turkey after the match finished off a great day for the Bats! A 6 – 1 win!
Great to have the support out there today. We definitely bring a big presence with the players caddies and supporters. And the opposition know it.
Next week we have the bye then one match to go against Goonawarra at Patterson River. At this stage the season has multiple scenarios left to play out and anything can happen. But guarantee we will be turning up to work for our next match to finish the season of strong. Great effort today by the team.
Go Bats 🦇❤🦇
