2024 Captain’s Cup results

Commencing back in the balmy, warmer months of Autumn, the 2024 Captain’s Cup got underway with what appeared to be a repeat of every other year. The Motswanan Prince Thabo Molwalefhe shot out of the gate with a trailblazing 41 points and was keen for a repeat victory.

Others to set themselves up for an early tilt at the lead were Stephen Peart, Wilso the ‘Capper, Dan Bebbere, Chris Evans and Peter (the ‘g’ is silent) Marsiglia.

Round 2 & 3 saw the emergence of a new contender, Peter Tshaikiwsky, with rounds of 38 and 37, whilst Thabo and Peter went walkabout and Chris and Trevor Wiseman made their presence felt near the top of the table. Warren George and Gav Temouskos threw in token 39 pointers, but that form proved unsustainable.

Rounds 4 and 5 saw a few absences from the lead group, perhaps resting, thinking they had done enough in the early rounds, while Browny popped up with an unexpected 38 to toss his hat in the ring.

But the two Peters, the one with the silent ‘g’ and the one with the name his mum can’t pronounce, shut down speculation aan created a two-horse race with respective rounds of 39 and 35 to go well clear of the pack.

Peter M was one point up heading to the final round, but appeared to have little room to improve on earlier rounds whilst Peter T had a 29 to repalce and a good final round could see him take the chocolates.

Peter M was not to be denied and, despite the ‘encouragement’ of his group, turned in another blinder with 39 points to finish well clear on 148 points whilst Peter T succumbed to the pressure and closed out with a 31 to slip 7 behind on 141.

Thabo hung around for 3rd place, 9 back on 137 points and Trevor and Chris rounded out the top 5 on 136 points.

Congratulations to Peter Marsiglia – the 2024 Captain’s Cup winner with an average round score or 36.75 points.
