YARRAMBAT GOLD

Today really was a mixed bag of results against a talented field of players from Heidelberg Blacks. Battling hard the team scrambled together 2 wins,3 draws and 2 close losses for a total of 3.5 points against Heidelberg Blacks 5.5.

Without looking for excuses, the results could have easily gone the other way but overall I think the Goldies did themselves proud. The overall view from the team is they enjoyed playing on a beautifully presented golf course and the competition was played in the right spirit by both sides which is what it’s really all about.
  • So our two A graders Nick and Russell were able to come from behind to draw their games whilst our two Rodney’s surprisingly had a day to forget both losing 5/4. I’m sure they both will bounce back into winning form in the following rounds.
  • Yours truly carried on with his winning form trouncing his opponent 6/5. (I reckon the weekend I spent up at Cobram-Barooga Golf Club tuned me up for the day!)
  • The ever reliable Gavin fought back brilliantly from being 3 down at one point to end up drawing against his long hitting opponent right on the finish line. Well done Gav!
  • Paul and Jenny fought hard to just be pipped at the post but I’m certain they will both be steeled by the experience and bounce back hard.
  • Last but not least Peter D continued his winning form and is looming as the dark horse to go through the season undefeated. Maintain the rage Peter!
In summary it was a great day regardless of the result with great spirit and sportsmanship displayed by all players. The course itself was beautifully presented and a pleasure to play on. It’s also worth mentioning how good the lunch was. Probably one of the better, if not the best after game meal I have ever had. Well done and thank you to Box Hill GC.

On another note I just want to congratulate the Yarrambat Blacks for winning their round 5 points to 4 against Rosanna Reds. Well done guys!

Can’t wait till next Monday at Rosanna Golf Club!

Go Bats!

Yarrambat Blaq Stable Report.

The Blaqs headed off to the Royal Box Hill course today, it was a brisk and breezy morning and the track looked lush and green and inviting albeit a couple of fairways undergoing irrigation works.

Again the stables were victorious, scraping in a 5 and 4 win, but, similar to last year, slow play cost a couple of our runners the chance of victory, it really is the scourge of Senior Pennant, a few players meandering along at their leisure has a massive impact on many back in the field, ping them I say, pick up and walk a hole, the group in front of Thabo and myself got to almost 2 holes behind! We are all elderly and slow and tired but you should be able to finish this format of play in under 4.30 hours!

On to our runners………

The Motswanian Prince……The “Prince” was in scintillating form, after finally getting 1 shot he flew the gates, driving brilliantly, and mercilessly grinding his opponent with beautiful touch, was never headed, a very soft win for the youngster of the stable!          A 5 and 4 belting.

You’re a Wimp Wilson……The “Wimp” struggled most of the race and failing to capitalize on his 1 shot advantage looked to be coming good on the turn nearing the post only to have the race waved off due to the “time” constraints missing out on the last 2!          All Square.

The Carpenter……The “Chippy” started better this run, giving up 2 shots the lead chopped and changed but rounding the turn a couple of light taps with the shillelagh saw him cruise comfortably to salute easily on the post!          A 4 and 2 victory.

Rockabilly Rebel……Not a great start to the racing season for the “Rebel” simply came up against a better player on the day, however we await the Stewards report regarding a runaway buggy into the 9th bunker and a possible fetlock injury to the Rebel!          A 4 and 2 Loss.

The Huntsman……”Graham Spider Searl” having his first race start and conceding 2 was unable to reel in his competition, a tough initiation, a small mistake near the post cost him dearly, he will gain plenty of fitness and experience from the tight Box Hill track!          A 1 down Loss.

Brucey T…… The “Tuds” first up after a spell needed the run, getting 1 shot from ex YGC member Robin Bliem was unable to match the course specialist, faltering near the post, another runner who should benefit from the hit out!          A 3 and 1 Loss.

Daicos’ Daddy…… The “Vassilator” jumped well and held a good lead for most of the race, approaching the top of the straight his opposition lengthened and reeled off some steady sectionals to dead heat right on the wire!          All Square.

Greggers Legacy……Another outstanding run from this first year colt, dictating terms from the outset and just toying with the opposition making every post a winner cruised to the line hard held for a seemingly effortless win!      A 5 and 4 shellacking.

The Birdman…… Evergreen “Tommy” first up from a short spell and even on handicaps, nonchalantly took the lead held it throughout the race and jog trotted to the line in typical Birdman fashion, a little flurry with the whip on saluting!          A 2 up Win.

A satisfying result on a tough track against quality opposition, the stables are looking strong at this early part of the season with a couple of “spellers” bucking their brands off, well done team, next week we are off to Rosanna against Whittlesea Gold, so looking forward to that!

Cheers and Go BLAQS…….

Wilso.

P.S. Another good showing from our other stables The Golds, not exactly what you wanted but still a good showing!
