Club Championships 2020

Published on 28th November 2020 in Uncategorized

Good evening all,

After a 3rd round played in ideal conditions, with a light breeze and overcast skies, a contender has emerged to challenge 4-time winner Darren Kershaw for the title of Club Champion.

Calvin Plowright, returning this year after an extended absence from the game has put 3 great rounds together to lead the field by 8 strokes heading into the final round. Whilst some might suggest it is quite an ask, Darren has overcome a similar deficit before and has never shrunk from a fight, so it looks like being a great final round. Good luck to all players.

Whilst tearing up the course in the Open field, Calvin has also opened a commanding 10 stroke lead over 2nd placed Jack Leonello in the A Grade (Nett) Championship, whilst yours truly is rueing a double bogey, quadruple bogey finish in Round 3 to be a further 2 strokes back. Golf – you are a cruel master!

In the B Grade (Nett), wily veteran Shayne Cairns has put together 3 great rounds to hold a solid 5 stroke lead over Paull Biancotto, and if his rich vein of form continues, looks hard to stop. John Frawley is playing well (but needs to overcome his ‘bogey hole’ 16, and Witho has made a late charge. Newcomer Will Ross is ineligible this year but is one to watch going forward.

In the C Grade (Nett) Championship Victor Cheche, after a 3rd round (-8) has bolted from nowhere to grab a one stroke lead over Sammy Pandarakanu in what looms as a repeat of last year’s final round. The Italian-Pom Mark Bazzoni is poised should the top two falter, and Ange Temouskos and Jacqui Lamoureux are well within striking distance. This is easily the tightest field we have had for some time, and should go down to the wire!

Good luck to all those still in the hunt. Play fair, but play hard! These chances do not come around all that often – grab it with both hands!
