AGM update, News & 2021 Syllabus published

Published on 29th December 2020 in Uncategorized

Good morning members,

Our COVID-19-delayed AGM was held just before Christmas, on Saturday December 19, and whilst attendance was restricted the atmosphere was good, with a number of members staying on site outside to await the outcome and to sample the lunch specials prepared by the new chef (Jas – one of our pennant players!)

The start of the AGM was delayed by 1/2 hour whilst proxies were presented for validation and duly vetted.

The President’s and Treasurer’s report were presented, and the club is in a healthy position with member retention and growth, and solid financial management.

The Committee were re-elected, without a vote needing to be taken, and there was a “cabinet re-shuffle”;

  • Rob Paravizzini steps back from the Captaincy to a role on the committee as work continued to demand much of his time – thanks Rob for your input and efforts over the last two years.
  • Joe Caruana stepped up to fill the vacancy as Captain, and I think you’d all agree that a better clubman would be hard to find.
  • Peter Lowrey stepped forward as the new Vice Captain – not sure he knows what he volunteered for just yet.. but he will be a valuable addition, bringing both balance and wisdom.
  • Jenny Bernhardt continues as Vic President, John Ward as Secretary, Steve Mudd as Treasurer and Mark Wilson as Handicapper
  • Lesley O’Connell and Howard Thomsett return as Committee members
  • and I am again privileged to serve as your Club President

The Special Resolution to amend the Rules of Association was defeated without a vote needing to be taken, as the numbers clearly balanced out (the proxies alone were split 44 for and 44 against), and a 50/50 vote was the most likely outcome – and while it was widely acknowledged that 75% was probably too high, most indicated would prefer to see the “majority voice” of members be heard on such matters. It was proposed that this matter be revisited, with a proposal to have a 51% majority needed to overturn any disciplinary decision should it go to a Special Meeting of members.

The meeting was closed after these votes, and the minutes will be published shortly.

A quick update regarding the end of 2020 (yay!) and the fresh new year that awaits.
