VGA Pennant report
Published on 19th April 2021 in UncategorizedSunday18 April was the last round of regular season VGA Pennant, and the lads were aiming for a minimum 5-2 win to give us a good chance of securing a finals spot.
We were up against the top side, and the challenge was clear.
The Course was absolutely mint, Andrew and the team had done a fantastic job showcasing how the course can and will look, and the green were lightening – probably about 13 on the stimp!
A valiant effort at home against the top side (Mt Derrimut) today saw the team take out a great 5-2 win.
Calvin put his opponent to the sword to take out a 7&6 win on 12.
Darren 3&2, Aaron 4&3, and Jas 3&2 getting the job done with some great golf
Daniel worked hard and played well for a 2&1 win
Alex faced trainee Pro and renowned flusher Callan Stone who was playing brilliant golf (albeit well down the order form his usual spot) and Callan proved to be too good on the day and
Peter’s match play had him in good position until a late stumble. He recovered to par the 18th after finding the hazard and halved that hole, but went down on the 19th hole to YGC member Mick Wilson’s son Stuart (I’m still reconsidering your membership Mick!
)
We had achieved the minimum 5-2 target we set ourselves, despite Mt Derrimut mixing their order to try and secure the win.
Unfortunately Club Mandalay capitulated (after leading in 4 matches through 9 holes) to lose 6-1, which allowed Yering to leapfrog into 2nd place, with YGC falling one game short in what was a ridiculously close season

It was always going to be tough when you need to rely on other results falling your way. One game short (probably one putt) across the season.
A great effort, and thank you to all players, caddies, spectators and supporters – special thanks to Jason Mullin – playing both team manager and caddy. Thanks again to our sponsors Belgravia Leisure; Yarrambat Park Golf Course; Grasslands café and Melbourne Industrial Builders.
Bring on 2022! We will be ready.
