An update from Golf Australia.

Members,

It seems both inevitable and sensible, to fulfil our duty of care to all members, that players will be required to be vaccinated to play in organised group events – such a community sport (YGC competitions, Seniors pennant and VGA Pennant).

A cut-off date will be set to ensure all players, including our juniors have had time to access the relevant services. It is anticipated this will coincide with a return to YGC competitions and four ball groups – which according to the road map – should be on October 26th (70% Double dose and end of lockdowns) (STC).

Golf Australia is backing Royal Melbourne’s decision to only allow vaccinated players on to the course when golf resumes in Victoria.

The world famous club appears to have led the way with its announcement to members recently that they would have to prove they were vaccinated against Covid-19 (at last 1st dose) – or have a legitimate medical excuse – before they could play.

Golf Australia chief executive James Sutherland told the Herald Sun that this was an obvious next step for the sport as it tries to get back on course.

Golf has been banned throughout Victoria for the last few weeks and also is off limits in the Australian Capital Territory, although regional Victorian golf clubs will reopen from Friday after a relaxing of restrictions by the Victorian Government.

“I think it is a bit of a no-brainer right now with where we are,” Sutherland told the Herald Sun.

“By and large most golfers will have had at least one jab. It goes to encouraging people to get vaccinated but also provides a gateway for golfers to get back on the course.

“People have a right to choose to be vaccinated or not, but if this allows the powers that be to have confidence in golf courses and golfers being a safe environment, then this is the way to go and we are leading on that front.”  Martin Blake Golf Australia Cubs and Facilities

“In terms of vaccination, the roadmap (and our discussions with Government) indicate that on the 26th of October when it is expected that 70% of adults 16+ are fully vaccinated, all participants will need to be double vaccinated. Therefore even though the state will have reached its 3rd milestone in the roadmap, conditions for playing golf will be tougher than that prior to the 26th of October. There is no indication of single vaccinated participants with an appointment will be allowed to play.” Sharna Faralla Golf Australia Regional Development Officer

Look forward to seeing you all out on the course over the next few weeks as we ease back into it!
