Captain’s Cup decided.
Published on 23rd October 2021 in UncategorizedOn a drizzly Saturday spring morning 80 fully vaccinated Yarrambat GC members braved the coolish conditions to see if their games had held up during the last lockdown (was it #6 or #16? I can’t remember).
Heading into what was to be the 5th and final round of the Covid-shortened format, John Polemikos held a 6 shot lead over Justin Crowe and was 7 shots clear of Princely, all of whom had played the minimum 4 rounds.
There were a number of players with only 3 rounds under their belts, and somone could come from the pack to snatch the cup from Poly’s hands.
Poly and Crowey both had early rounds of 40+ points and would be hard to catch, but with a low round of 27 points to replace Crowey had the best chance to make a charge, whereas Poly was a model of consistency, averaging 36+ across his 4 rounds.
A round of 34 would probably be enough for Crowey to overhaul the front runner, who due to overnight rains was forced to walk the course and test his dodgy knees.
In the end, Crowey was only able to improve by one point (a reliable source suggested that Crowey’s new found health kick and staying off the beer has cost him 50 yards and his mojo!) whilst your truly snuck in to 3rd place.
Poly was too consistent across the 4 required rounds, and showed his resilience in the last round, eventually improving his aggregate by one shot to take out a well deserved win.
Congratulations John Polemikos – winner of the Captain’s Cup 2021 by 6 points.
