VGA Pennant Round 2

Published on 6th March 2022 in Uncategorized

On a wet, windy and misty day at Club Mandalay the team fronted up against Werribee Park and took on the undefeated ladder leaders, who were lead by (ex-Bat alumni) Tom Howarth.

The conditions were tough – it as cold with cross winds, wet greens, soggy bunkers and  temporary water on the fairways.

The team settled into their games quickly – focused in the task at hand – and some were quick to gain the ascendency; Capt Kershaw Darren putting his opponent to the clinical finishing sword to record the first win 8 & 7, with Alex 6 & 5 and Daniel 5 & 4 not far behind. Jas notched a 4 & 3 win with a solid approach and putt the 6th (his 15th). Brock tightened the screws from the 8th hole to record a 4&3 win, whilst Cal struggled in the cold to get his body right going down with a fighting 4&3. Aaron took o the challenge of big hitting Tom Howarth and, after a see-sawing battle fought back to square the match with 2 to play.

As he played his 17th hole (the 8th) flanked, in a show of solidarity, by the entire pennant team and their caddies, incl; Paul M, Pete, Matty, Ronnie, The Mullin, and a fantastic group of Yarrambat members, including Capt Joe, Wilso, The Grinch, Troy P, the Motswanan, CK & Nicole & Sammy Saykan,  Aaron made some clutch plays to take out the final match 1 up and seal a 6-1 win and catapult us to the top of the table.

A well deserved week off, and then it’s off to Cheltenham to take on Melton Valley in a key match that will decide the season. A huge Yarrambat Golf Club turn out would be great to see for this pivotal match!

An unfortunate power outage at the Club Mandalay estate saw the the post-match celebration come home to the ‘Bat, supporting the club that supports us.
