2022 VGA Pennant
Published on 4th May 2022 in UncategorizedOn Sunday the 1st of May, the team headed off to the Eastern Golf Club to take on second place finishers Goonawarra GC. It was great to see a number of YGC members, resplendent in club shirts, made the trek out in support of the team.
The day was cool, with a freshening breeze making playing conditions a little trickier on the unfamiliar course. The lush wide fairways invited you your drives, but the undulating greens and 12 foot deep bunkers and plentiful water hazards were quick to shut the door on any errant shots.
The team were well prepared, but unfortunately could not close the deal, going down 4 & 3.
There was some good wins, and some tough losses as Goonawarra strategically mixed their playing order to match their pros against our middle order. A big win to Brock got us on the board early, and Jamie came from 3 down at the turn to rattle of the next 7 holes and take a 3 &2 win. Aaron won his match 3&2 whilst Daniel and Alex had tough close losses. Darren and Jas couldn’t replicate their recent form and also lost.
Congratulations to our players of 2022 – a fantastic season, well done.
And great thanks to all who gave up their time and caddied and supported.
The silver lining is that whilst we don’t have a ridiculously oversized pennant to hang from the rafters, we will be promoted to Division 4 for the 2023 season.
The new challenge awaits (and the pre-season has already started!)
