The weather really turned on a spectacular day for us today at the Rosanna Golf Club. A beautiful blue sky day, no breeze to speak of and a temperature in the low 20’s is all one could ask for so there really wasn’t any excuse not to play well. Funny how things don’t always go to plan though. The comp day started off badly for the team with Rod Mountney not being able to front up due to illness.
Unfortunately a substitute couldn’t be organised due to the lateness of the withdrawal advice so the team were immediately down one game without a shot being fired. Add to this the enormous number of shots the team were giving away and it made for a really testing day.
The team were able to scramble 3 wins out of a possible 9 so the day wasn’t a complete disaster by any means. Mark, Paul and Gavin did us proud by reigning in their large handicap deficits to take the points whilst four other games were only just lost at the last post.
In summary it was a great day regardless of the result with great spirit and sportsmanship displayed by all players. The course itself was beautifully presented and a pleasure to play on with lunch consisting of a main course of a beef pie and veg followed by a nice dessert of what I believe was sticky date pudding. Well done and thank you to Rosanna GC.
On another note I just want to congratulate the Yarrambat Blacks for winning their round 7 wins to 2 against Whittlesea Gold. Well done guys!
Can’t wait till next Monday playing at our home turf, the Yarrambat Golf Club. We will need to come out all guns blazing if we are to challenge for the Pennant which I am sure we will!
Go Bats!

Welcome to the Yarrambat Blaq stable report, round 3.
It was an unusually cool crisp morning at Royal Rosanna, the track presenting nice and green with a solid rating of a fast 5. As the runners assembled awaiting the briefing it was obvious the day was going to turn out a stunner! And what a stunner it was for the Blaq stable, recording a 7 and 2 demolition against a formidable Whittlesea Gold outfit, the ledger heavily weighted in favour of the opposition to the tune of 52 shots, disappointingly our two top weights the only defeated runner’s on the day!
To our Blaq runners……….
The Motswanian Prince……(giving up 6), the “Prince” was not on song today, he was slowly away and couldn’t match it against his older more seasoned opponent, fading in the straight under the big weight, a short freshen up in the paddock will serve him well! A 4 and 3 Loss.
Your A Wimp Wilson…………(giving up 5), the “Wimp” flew the gates and after 5 was 4 in front but alas his super steady opponent who didn’t miss one fairway all day ground away to wear down the lead, a capitulating tiring Wimp grabbed 100 from home! A 2 down Loss.
The Carpenter………………….(giving up 6), the “Chippy” is going from strength to strength, Mister Consistency, his last 3 wins, by 3 then 4 and today an effortless 6 length thumping, easily setting the lead and speed, cruising to the winning post untouched! A 6 and 5 Win.
Smudge O’Connell……………(giving up7), “Smudge”, the stables equivalent of Fine Cotton, settled near the speed and at the half way mark unleashed a withering run around the field to go 4 in front on the turn, the tactics paying off, a hard held win on the line! A 3 and 2 Win.
The Witham Stick……………..(giving up 6), the “Stick” in his nonchalant but talkative style sat outside the leaders and only did what was needed, WIN, raising his whip right on the line (a possible fine for that extravagance) a workman like effort! A 1 up Win.
The Hushed Ninja…………….(giving up 7), the “Ninja” returning from a short spell reiterated his liking for the Rosanna track, setting up an early lead but letting the field come back to him, lengthened stride for an easy victory untouched on the line! A 5 and 3 Win.
Daicos’ Daddy…………………..(giving up 5), the “Daddy” again showed his class after an uncharacteristic run last start decided to show no mercy, jumped to the front and continued to increase the margin the entire race, hitting the line with ears pricked! A 6 and 5 Win.
Greggers Legacy……………….(giving up 5), “Greggers” our newest stable star, wow, has this first season colt ticked all the boxes, after balancing early produced the run of the day, gliding around the field and still under double wraps, saluted, a group 1 not far off! A 7 and 5 Win.
The Birdman……………………..(giving up 5), “Birdy” our mightily seasoned last race specialist, not to dwell on the scuttlebutt of retiring to the Sires program, toyed and teased his opposition, “ANOTHER VICTORY”, legend status is awaiting this stallion! A 2 UP Win.
So another great days racing for the Blaq stables and might I say looking very nicely thank you very much, on top of the divi 2 ladder rolling comfortably towards a final spot, let’s bring it on!
Cheers Wilso.
Bad luck to Micky D’s team, an unfortunate set of circumstances lead to a very disappointing loss for them, but I know he will fire the group up for the remaining couple of races!
