Senior Pennant R4 – Yarrambat

Yarrambat Gold

On a picture perfect golf day on our beloved home turf, the Yarrambat Gold Team turned up and showed their true colours with a resounding 7 wins to 2 finish. This was a truly magnificent result when you consider every team member gave away shots to begin with yet we still came out on top in a big way.

All players gave their all with 4 out of 9 winning their respective battles right at the end.  Well done Nick, Mark B, Mark H and Jenny for sticking at it and coming out on top. Gav, Paul and yours truly had relatively easy wins and are looking at repeating their domination at Royal Heidelberg Golf course next week.

Our thanks to the Yarrambat Park Golf Course ground staff for presenting the course as well as they could under significant duress (staff shortages, super dry conditions and bloody corellas being the main problems) It certainly helped us having local knowledge of the course under these circumstances. Many thanks also to the kitchen and bar staff for looking after us with a hearty Parma and Pot. Very tasty!

In summary it was a great day with a fabulous result which now gives us an opportunity to finish on top of our group and play off for the Pennant! Yes we are reliant on other teams falling over and us winning well but you never know what might happen especially at Royal Heidelberg.

And once again I just want to congratulate the Yarrambat Blacks for winning their round 5 wins to 4. This sits them up undefeated on the top of their group with the Pennant final now staring them in the face. Well done guys!

Can’t wait till next Monday playing at Royal Heidelberg Golf Club. We will need to come out all guns blazing again if we are to challenge for the Pennant which I am sure we will!

Yarrambat Blaq stable report, Round 4.

Gorgeous, that’s the description of the morning greeting us at Royal Yarrambat, with the rest of the day almost perfect golfing weather!

Unfortunately our track is not in the best of shape, crazy, because only a couple of months ago it was looking and playing superb, pesky bloody wildlife and a very fickle dry summer have certainly taken a toll, no matter, all runners having to deal with the same conditions!

Another race card where all of our starters had to concede shots and the result going right to the wire! The ever strong “BLAQ” stable showing all the guts and determination, to salute with a well fought 5 and 4 victory, well done guys this puts us firmly in top position in Divi 2, and, an unassailable lead that will see us steamroll into the final at Gardiners Run, let’s show our strength at Heidelberg next week and continue the streak!

The Blaq runners…….

You’re a Wimp Wilson……………..(conceding 4), at number 1 the “Wimp”, (really not a number 1), was quick out of the barriers again but seems to have lost some spark, the pressure of top weight possibly too great a burden, his opponent taking the lead after 5 cruising to the line easily!                           A 5 and 3 Loss.

The Carpenter………………………….(conceding 2), the “Chippy” continued his rich vein of form jumping with the pack and taking an early lead, held his margin to the line for a comfortable win and still undefeated in 4 runs, a very attractive picket fence is emerging!                                                                  A 2 and 1 Win.

Hit me with your Witham stick…(conceding 3), the “Stick” jumped well and looked to be travelling fine, but it looks like age is catching up with this entire, his opponent taking the lead and dictating proceedings for most of the race!                                                                                           A 3 and 2 Loss.

Rockabilly Rebel……………………….(conceding2), was tardy out of the barriers and a couple of lengths down after the first 5 furlongs but soon got into stride and with that long loping gait, rounded up his opponent in the straight for a very nice victory!                                                                                        A 3 and 2 Win.

The Hushed Ninja…………………….(conceding 4), seemed to jump well with the field and had a ding dong battle with his opponent, the lead chopping and changing several times was just nosed out in a head bobbing photo finish on the line!                                                                                             A 1 down Loss.

The Huntsman………………………….(conceding 3), the “Spider” had an improved showing today, still coming to grips with this format jumped really well but soon saw his opposition take the lead, a valiant late charge saw him just nutted on the post!                                                                                  A 2 and 1 Loss.

Brucey T……………………………………(conceding 6), after a week’s let up “Tuds” came out chock full of confidence, flying the gates, setting up a huge lead, was never headed, cantering to the post for the easiest of wins, quite a spectacular return!                                                                              A 5 and 3 Win.

Greggers Legacy………………………(conceding 8), the stables surprise packet, “Greggers” show all the tenacity we have come to expect from this first season runner, and this locomotive “ain’t” stopping for anybody, here comes another picket fence!                                                                                              A 1 up Win.

The Birdman…………………………….(conceding 5), is there sufficient superlatives for “Birdie”, no, he just goes about his business, no mercy shown to his opponents, the lead goes back and forth most of the race and guess who comes out on top?……..The Birdman!                                                                         A 1 UP Win.

A tough hard fought victory on home soil and a credit to our winners, not as emphatic as one would have liked, but nonetheless a very sweet result!

Next week at Royal Heidelberg should be fun, with a weeks’ rest for Labour day and then the biggie at Gardiners Run on the 17th of March!

A huge shout out to Peter Lowrey for the home game administration, of course handled with his “professional aplomb”, a bloody lot of work goes into the running of this day, so three cheers there!

And little old Yarrambat, the track as good as one could expect, lunch and drinks went down seamlessly, happy faces all round, and you know what…. we really do punch way above our weight!

Cheers and thank you all for a great day,

Wilso.

Also a great result for Micky D and the Gold team, a very solid performance!
