Senior Pennant R5
Published on 10th March 2025 in UncategorizedYarrambat Gold
Once again the weather turned on a spectacular day at the picture perfect Royal Heidelberg Golf Club for the last round of the 2025 Senior Pennant. As usual the Yarrambat Gold Team turned up and gave their all but unfortunately went down 3 points to 6 to the Whittlesea Blues. With 4 games going down to the last hole and 2 draws it could easily have been a very different result but that’s the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. What’s more important was the true sportsmanship and camaraderie displayed by both teams during this tight tussle.
Well done Russell, Mark H, Paul and Peter for coming up with the points and also well done to the rest of the team for battling hard in their respective games.
Our thanks to the Heidelberg Golf Course ground staff for the magnificent presentation of the course. The fairways were lush, the bunkers were nice to hit out of and the greens were simply superb. It really is a credit to the ground staff and Heidelberg Golf Club management that they are able to maintain the course to this excellent level even during this long hot and dry summer. Many thanks also to the bar and kitchen staff for looking after us with a hearty Parma and Pot.
In summary it was a great day, albeit not a winning one. However we still have the opportunity to win the Plate at the final at Gardiners Run in a fortnight’s time.
And once again I just want to congratulate the Yarrambat Blacks for winning their round 5 1/2 wins to 3 1/2. This sits them up top undefeated in their group with the Pennant final to go against the Heidelberg Blacks. Well done guys!
Can’t wait till Monday the 17th of March playing at Gardiners Run. It would be wonderful if both Yarrambat teams end up on the podium with the Senior Pennant and Plate firmly in our hands.
Go Bats!

Yarrambat Blaq stable report…..
Another glorious early autumn morning welcomed us at Royal Heidelberg, the track looking incredible as was expected and with their Pro Am only weeks away, the rating was a fast 5!
Our runners……….
The Motswanian Prince…..(giving up 2), coming off a week’s rest the “Prince” was super keen to improve his strike rate, with plenty of experience and a definite liking for this course, it was not to be, slow to start and playing catch up just couldn’t muster! A 3 and 2 Loss.
The Carpenter…..(no shots given), the “Chippy” also taking on some admin duties (thanks Lance), was a little tardy out, 3 down after 5, desperate to maintain his unbeaten record, typically fought all the way to the line to draw, a great season for this colt! All square.
The Witham Stick…..(no shots given), up against an old foe, being the “Long haired Larrikin”, both jumped well and in a see sawing affair, the “Stick” showed a good turn of foot in the straight to outgun his rival for an easy win on the line! A 3 and 2 Win.
Rockabilly Rebel…..(giving up 5), jumped awkwardly and took a few furlongs to settle, getting into stride coming to the corner, and with that long grey mane flowing in the breeze, put in a withering burst to win comfortably on the post! A 4 and 3 Win.
The Huntsman…..(giving up 3), “Spider”, finally shrugged off his fearsome and non venomous reputation, springing out of his web and taking the early ascendancy, continued to increase the margin to the line, an easy first match play win! A 3 and 2 Win.
Brucey T…..(giving up 7), the “Tuds” jumped well and crossed the field easily, 5 and 6 in front early, one may have thought a slipping saddle, but no worries he was just foxing, toying with the opposition, cruised to a demolishing victory! A 4 and 3 Win.
Daicos’ Daddy…..(giving up 2),”Daddy O”, jumping only fairly was soon at the back of the field, his mid race revival saw him gain a decent posi but he couldn’t keep on that pace, tiring and with the “Wobbles” faded in the last furlong! A 3 and 2 Loss.
Greggers Legacy…..(giving up 6), our first season star had the added pressure of the dreaded “picket fence” and a new track to contend with, incredibly valiant to the end, just couldn’t maintain the rage only just going down right on the line! A 2 down Loss.
The Birdman…..(giving up 10), our evergreen stallion just gets the job done, no big fanfare, give the opposition a lazy 10, jump out, settle into stride, have a quick geek about the place, cruise to the line and of course in front, another victory for the “Bird”! A 3 and 2 Win.
A mighty effort from the Blaq stables, even though round 5 was essentially a dead rubber for us it was heartwarming to see our runner’s pride in the result, a 5.5 to 3.5 victory, a great effort lad’s. We have this week off due to the Labour day break giving us plenty of time to retune and recover! We now motor into the Pennant final at Gardiners Run against the formidable Heidelberg Black team also unbeaten and with a slightly superior strike rate, it will be the Match of the Century! It will also prove to be an extremely challenging time for team selection and, unfortunately there will be a few very disappointed runners, but this is the nature of the Senior’s format, either way we can be super proud of our results this season with “ALL” runners absolutely contributing to culminate in a finals berth! From me personally, thank you all for a seemless and most enjoyable home and away season, another entertaining and humbling experience!
Congrats to Micky D’s Gold, not exactly the result they wanted but rest assured will fly the “BAT” flag high and proud at Gardiners for the Plate! Well done to all, another small step for Yarrambat, one giant leap for we golfers!
Cheers and as always…Go BLAQS!
